Observations in Balloch/ local inspirations

Balloch is a town defined by water. The Loch Lomond and the River Leven frame the people's and visitors paths and the water itself is filled with life.
The life on the water is also explored in Latvian culture, as we host a myriad of cultural events in water, and this was a cornerstone of the retreat.

Creating musical wonders and secure spaces

Water provides privacy and security, as well as create a peculiar acoustic experience for the children.

Environmental analysis and principles of building

The retreat creates seamless and imperceivable solutions to the challenges of the cold and rainy conditions in Balloch through the use of sustainable materials, heat pump, biomass boiler, heat recovery system and rainwater collecting. The integration of these systems creates an off-grid, Passivhaus standard retreat on an island that plays with heavy and light/ old and new.
